On the evening of October 22, the welcome gala and opening ceremony of the 2026 "Belt and Road" International Regatta kicked off in the Central Hall of the Beihai Silver Beach No. 1 International Conference Center Hotel. Following three days of fierce competition from October 23 to 25, all inshore and long-distance races were successfully completed, and the closing awards dinner was held on the evening of October 25. As a benchmark international regatta IP rooted in the ancient departure port of the Maritime Silk Road and included in the World Sailing calendar, this eighth edition of the event, with high-level competition, international organization, and diversified integration, has written a vibrant sports chapter for Beihai's drive to strengthen itself through the sea.
Li Quanhai, President of World Sailing; Liang Jianbo, Deputy Director of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Sports Bureau; Pan Juan, Deputy Mayor of Beihai Municipal People's Government; Li Huangxun, Director of the Major Events Office of the Autonomous Region Sports Bureau; Pang Yuanqiong, Director of the Beihai Municipal Bureau of Tourism, Culture and Sports; and other leaders and guests attended the opening ceremony.
This year marks the eighth edition since the event's inception. It uniformly adopted the J80 racing boat type and attracted a total of 22 teams from the United States, Russia, Singapore, Australia, and other countries and regions to gather in the Beibu Gulf. The waters of the Beibu Gulf feature complex winds, waves, and currents. The teams faced the wind and waves directly, competing in tactical judgment, teamwork, and on-the-spot adaptability, and completed all nine rounds of inshore series races and the long-distance race, with all major awards decided. In the inshore races, Heyuan Sailing Team won the championship; Xiamen City Vocational College Sailing Team 1 and ALISA Sailing Team took second and third places respectively; Chengdu Wolong Fengchu Team, Nansheng Sailing Team, and Solaris Sailing Team ranked fourth to sixth. In the long-distance race, Heyuan Sailing Team also claimed the title, with ALISA Sailing Team and Chengdu Wolong Fengchu Team finishing second and third.
With sails as a bridge, connecting mountains and seas. Beihai enjoys unique coastal resources and a profound maritime cultural heritage, and the event organically combines the history and culture of the Maritime Silk Road with modern sailing sports. During the event, participating sailors from home and abroad experienced the coastal scenery of the Beibu Gulf and explored cultural tourism resources such as the Weizhou Volcanic Island and Beihai Old Town. The event has become an important window for cultural exchange with foreign countries, fully showcasing the charm of Beihai.
