An articulation agreement identifies comparable coursework between two schools, allowing credits earned at a community college to count toward requirements at a four-year institution. Kansas Systemwide Transfer courses move between public institutions only when the receiving school offers an equivalent course, and according to the Kansas Board of Regents, the receiving institution still decides whether to accept upper-division credit. A published, school-specific pathway can reduce that uncertainty before a student registers for a course.
Newman posts course lists for 20 Kansas community and technical colleges, showing which classes transfer and satisfy Newman Studies Program requirements. The Kansas Board of Regents notes that students entering certain professional or specialty programs may still need more than two years of coursework beyond the associate degree, depending on program requirements, so advising remains part of the process.//
The Garden City award reflects a multi-year HERE partnership between Newman and Garden City Community College, which allows students to complete prerequisites locally before advancing into Newman bachelor's programs offered in Southwest Kansas. The partnership has helped 23 students earn bachelor's degrees so far, with 33 more currently enrolled.
Choosing a major and destination institution early can help students planning a transfer, since a transferred course does not always count toward a specific program; consulting advisers at both the community college and Newman can also support that planning. Newman accepts credit from CLEP, DANTES, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, along with specialty options such as the Three-Two Occupational Therapy pathway, which combines three years of Newman biology coursework with two years at Washington University toward a master's degree. Students can review transfer credit resources specific to their community college and connect with Newman advisers to begin mapping a transfer plan.
